How To Nurture Positive Self-Talk


How you talk to yourself is how you feel about yourself. It is easy to get attached to the negative voice talking inside your head. This voice that keeps reminding you of your insecurities, self-doubts or unfulfilled dreams. Not only does it affect your self-esteem and self-confidence, but it also very easily becomes a habit. A habit that is so automatic that it's hardly noticeable.

Take a moment to think about it. The way you’re putting yourself down with those insulting words; would you go through the same conversation with another human being in exactly the same situation as you? Would you listen to someone else saying those things directly to your face? Would you just put your chin down and not defend yourself in any way? My guess is that you wouldn’t. Because nobody deserves to be talked to negatively. Not you or any other
person.

The thing is, when you become aware of your negative thoughts, you start thinking about how to get rid of them. And in trying to figure out how to make them stop, you're focusing your energy on the negative thoughts. Now there is a cycle of constantly attracting even more negativity into your life because what you’re thinking, you are inviting. There is the intention to get out of the cycle, but instead, you are getting drowned in it and asking for more.

The good thing about all this negativity is that you have a choice. You can change it. You don’t have to keep on listening to this voice. It is there, yes. But just be aware of it. Acknowledge it. Accept it. When you catch yourself listening to this negative self-talk, stop for a minute and try replacing the negative words with positive ones.

Let’s say you wake up in the morning feeling a bit tired because you didn’t sleep well. You see your own reflection in the mirror and immediately pay attention to the dark circles under your eyes.

"I look horrible. I look so old. I was supposed to go out for lunch, but I can’t go looking like this. Why didn’t I go to bed earlier last night? I’m so stupid.”

Instead, try telling yourself that you are not stupid staying up late, you had some important things to do. And you do not look horrible. What you see in the mirror is your beautiful face, which naturally shows the lack of a good night sleep. But it doesn’t make it horrible. Why would it? It is your unique, beautiful face. Give yourself a smile. It might feel unnatural at first, but it will, too, start turning into a habit. A positive habit.

Whether you think negative or positive thoughts, exactly the same thing happens: you attract what you think. So when you replace the negative thoughts with positive ones, the universe will respond by creating more and more positivity. Once you start doing this, there will be an infinitely growing cycle of positivity.

Start being actively alert to the way you talk to yourself. Be kind. And gentle. Give yourself love. It will have a massive impact on the quality of your life, starting right now at this very moment. There’s nothing to lose. You deserve it.
