On this blog that only sees an average of 3.5 posts a year??”
ShhhhHHhhh, the past is the past and I’m dedicated this year.
Not to blogging, ha, to increasing my sense of self-importance by pretending people want to read what I have to say.
Anywho, I guess because I host a radio show at my university’s station I now think it’s my prerogative to make recommendations. Never-mind that 100 people host shows every week, I’m special.
Here’s what I’m listening to right now, smOoth lo-fi hunny vibez edition.
Goodie Bag - Still Woozy
Dis song just slaps, that’s it. I heard it in the intro to this YouTube video and after 0.5 seconds hit that description box and was BLESSED to find song title and artist there (big up to YouTubers who name their music so I don’t have to spend 15 minutes scrolling through the comments!!).
Ooh La La - EXO
This song literally cures my anxiety. Like, I don’t like taking medication but I also can’t just run/exercise when- and where-ever I’m anxious so I really appreciate this alternative quick fix.
I was lying in my friend Tina’s bed when she started playing this song and leGITIMATELY MY ANXIETY JUST DISSIPATED AND MY MUSCLES RELAXED and wow.
Powerslide - Ryan Beatty
This artist did, like, a complete 360?? No, 180. I always say 360 but that would be a full circle ending up where it started. He did a 180. I listened to him when I was 14 and he was churning out those teeny-bopper pop hits (pfft, I don’t listen to those anymore, no you didn’t see floppy-hair era JB tunes in my music library!!)
134340 - BTS
These sound are better than sex but not as good as Hey Ya! by Outkast. I wish I’d come up with that joke myself but really I stole it from the title of this Reductress article.
MOOO! - Doja Cat
Bitch I’m a cow
Bitch I’m a cow
I’m not a cat
I don’t say meow
… need I say more tbh.
(I assumed the answer was no, but just in case, here are more lyrics:
Got milk, bitch? Got beef?
Got steak, hoe? Got cheese? )
Retro - SHINee
Another one shown to me by Teens. She’s a music producer so also my go-to music guru. It’s also helpful that she knows what I like, so if she sends/shows me something I trust that it’s up my alley, you know. I guess this is a lil less smoOth and honey-ish but I adore the intro.
Appletree- Erykah Badu
I can’t not dance to this song because we learnt SUCH good routine to it in hip-hop class. Also, incidentally, the same routine that formed the backdrop of a lot my realisations with regards to my anxiety and my resistance to process and practice.
Honesty - Pink Sweat$
This song feels like a massage. I don’t know if it’s the simple electric guitar chord progression, or the frankly _____ falsetto in the chorus, but I feel like I’m lying on a warm bed of rose petals, slathered in lavender oil, being massaged by the music.
Cherry Cola - Kuwada
You’re lying on a sun lounger, wearing your fave bikini, the sun is glittering on the rim of your sunglasses, your tan is the perfect shade of bronzed, buff men dive into the pool in slow-motion, you’re sipping on a Bahama Mama. This is the song you’re listening to.
Concussion - Ben Beal, Biskwiq
If you’ve ever dreamt of California livin’… this song is kind of what it feels like. Heavy bass, chill rap, upbeat distorted vocals, lyrics about not giving a fuck. It’s what I imagine would play when you sink back into your pillow to daydream and there’s that, like, blurry transition?
